Quality Standards
Quality Standards
Section titled “Quality Standards”Quality management systems, inspection protocols, and material testing standards.
Quality Management System
Section titled “Quality Management System”Our production facilities operate under strict quality control procedures aligned with a rigorous Internal Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure consistency and traceability.
Core Principles
Section titled “Core Principles”| Area | Implementation |
|---|---|
| Design Control | All designs digitally stored, revision controlled, and peer-reviewed before cutting. |
| Material Traceability | Full lot tracking from raw material receipt to final product. Each sail has a unique serial number linking to material batches. |
| Production Control | Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for every construction step (seaming, corner finishing, hardware installation). |
| Inspection | Mandatory multi-stage verification points (Receiving, In-Process, Final). |
Inspection Protocols
Section titled “Inspection Protocols”1. Material Receiving
Section titled “1. Material Receiving”Every roll of cloth and batch of hardware undergoes inspection upon arrival.
| Check | Method | Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Batch Verification | Label check | Match Purchase Order & Mill Certification |
| Visual Inspection | Light table | No weaving defects, stains, or coating irregularities |
| Weight Verification | Scale / GSM check | Within ±3% of specification |
| Hardware Fit | Tolerance check | Go/No-Go gauge for critical fittings |
2. In-Process Quality Control (IPQC)
Section titled “2. In-Process Quality Control (IPQC)”Inspections conducted during the manufacturing process to catch issues early.
| Stage | Inspection Item | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Panel Cutting | Edge seal quality, shape accuracy | First off + random sampling |
| Seaming | Stitch tension, overlap width, seam tape adhesion | Start of every shift + spot checks |
| Broadseaming | Draft depth and position check | Visual verification on floor |
| Corner Patches | Layer count, orientation, adhesion | 100% visual check |
| Hardware | Press pressure (rings), torque (battcars) | 100% check |
3. Final Quality Control (FQC)
Section titled “3. Final Quality Control (FQC)”Comprehensive review of the finished sail before packaging.
| Category | Check | Tolerance / Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Luff, Leech, Foot lengths | ±0.5% or class rule limit |
| Shape | Flying shape check (when applicable) | Smooth profiles, no hard spots |
| Finish | Stitching ends, chafe protection, cleaning | Zero loose threads, no dirt/marks |
| Accessories | Battens, bags, ties, telltales | Complete kit verification |
Testing Standards
Section titled “Testing Standards”We utilize industry-standard testing methods to validate material performance.
Seam Strength
Section titled “Seam Strength”| Test | Standard | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | ISO 13934-1 | Measures breaking force of seams (perpendicular pull). |
| Grab Test | ASTM D5034 | Simulates concentrated load performance. |
Criteria: Seam strength must exceed base material strength or meet calculated design load (Safety Factor > 2.5).
Material Durability
Section titled “Material Durability”| Test | Standard | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Tear Resistance | ISO 13937-2 | (Trouser Tear) Measures force to propagate a tear. |
| UV Resistance | ISO 4892-2 | Xenon arc exposure to simulate sunlight aging. |
| Water Repellency | AATCC 22 | Spray test for woven Dacron and spinnaker nylon. |
Hardware Load Testing
Section titled “Hardware Load Testing”| Test | Method | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Pull-Out Test | Hydraulic rig | Verifies corner ring/headboard attachment strength. |
| Cyclic Loading | Dynamic rig | Simulates fatigue for high-load fittings (Code Zero furlers). |
Traceability Documentation
Section titled “Traceability Documentation”Every sail is delivered with a unique QC Passport that includes:
- Serial Number: Unique identifier.
- Material Lot Numbers: Traceability for all major components (cloth, thread, hardware).
- Inspector Sign-Off: Digital or physical signature for each QC stage.
- Final Measurement Certificate: Actual finished dimensions (upon request).
